'Setup fatal error: Unable to generate installation log file' error message

THE PROBLEM

'Setup fatal error: Unable to generate installation log file' error occurs when installing the software.

THE SOLUTION

The error message is normally a sign that the user does not have administrative rights to install the software.
To resolve the problem :-

  1. Ensure that the user has administrative rights on their PC/laptop
  2. Create a download directory e.g.,'c:\enginuity'
  3. Download the Enginuity software (zip file) to the folder created in the step above
  4. Unzip the zip file, and run 'setup.exe' to install the software

'setup.lst' renamed to 'setup.txt’

THE PROBLEM

Problems installing the software because the file "setup.lst" has been renamed to "setup.txt" during the download.

THE SOLUTION

Rename 'setup.txt' back to 'setup.lst'.

'Keeping newer files' warning message

THE PROBLEM

'Keeping newer files' warning message.

THE SOLUTION

The installation always tries to install the latest version of system files. However, there are times when you may have newer versions than the ones being installed, in which case you will be sensibly prompted to keep the newer files you already have. If so, accept the default response and keep the newer files.

Running Enginuity on a Mac

THE PROBLEM

Installing Enginuity on a Mac.

THE SOLUTION

Enginuity is intended to run on windows-based PCs.

However it is possible to install Enginuity on a MAC by partitioning the hard drive into 2 parts (1 for windows and 1 for mac). Enginuity can then be downloaded and installed onto the windows partition.

There is lots of information on the web about how to do this, and in particular use the following link to install windows on a Mac via BootCamp.

Additional notes :-

  • If your are running anything older than OSX El-Capitan 10.11, you will need a USB drive with more than 16GB storage. If you are running a newer operating system on your Mac, you do not need a USB drive.
You can check which operating system you are running by clicking the apple logo at the top left corner of your screen, and click “About this Mac”.
  • You do not need to buy a windows licence to run Windows 10 on your Mac. However, you will end up with a watermark in the bottom right hand side of your screen that says “Activate Windows” that shows permanently. It should run perfectly fine otherwise.

Data not appearing on grids

THE PROBLEM

Data is not appearing on grids, or tables, such as on the decision screens.

THE SOLUTION

The problem is occuring because one of the system files, "dbgrid32.ocx" that displays grids of data, was not installed/registered correctly.

Contact the Enginuity Team for the solution.

Runtime error '339'. Component ???? or one of its dependencies

THE PROBLEM

When running the software the error 'Runtime error 339' appears, along with a sub message indicating that 'A component ???? or one of its dependencies is not correctly registered", where '????' is the name of the component.

THE SOLUTION

The problem occurs because ????, representing the object in the error message, was not registered properly during the installation of the software.

Firstly, and crucially, it is assumed that the person installing the software had administrator rights. Assuming this was the case, to remove the error follow the steps below.

STEP 1: CHECK IF ???? IS ON YOUR MACHINE

Search for ????. It should be in a subfolder of the windows folder. If ???? is present then proceed to Step 3. Otherwise proceed to Step 2.

STEP 2: REINSTALL ????

To do this you will need to contact the competition controller, who will send you the correct version of ???? to be used. Once you have the new file :-

  1. Copy the file to your windows\system32 folder
  2. Follow the instructions in STEP 3

STEP 3: REREGISTER ????

To do this :-

  1. On the taskbar click the Start/Run
  2. In the Run dialog box type the following command, "Regsvr32.exe PPPP\????" where 'PPPP\????' is the path and filename of the offending object e.g., "regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system32\????"
  3. Click OK
  4. Try the software again and check if the error has now gone

Screen objects out of line (display settings)

THE PROBLEM

There appear to be display problems on some screens, particularly with grids of information. Typical problems include :-

  • Objects appear out of line with each other, such as headings with data
  • Some information is not visible, and there is no horizontal scrollbar available to reveal the information
  • Vertical and horizontal scroll bars appear on decision screens, which looks messy

THE SOLUTION

The software has been optimised to work best at the following settings.

THEME: Windows Classic
TEXT SIZE: Smaller (100% default)
SCREEN RESOLUTION: 1,024 x 768 (Landscape)

If you do not wish to change your windows theme/screen resolution you could try the following :-

  1. From the Windows Taskbar open the Control Panel
  2. Select the 'Appearance and Personalisation' option
  3. Change the text size to 'Medium - 125%'

If the problems still persist contact the Competition Controller for further guidance.

Please note that the steps to make changes to windows settings may vary slightly between different versions of windows.

Decimal points appearing as commas

THE PROBLEM

Numbers cannot be entered with decimal points, and are always rounded to integers.

This problem has been reported when setting the bid values on the Procurement Screen, and in particular mark ups. The result is that the required mark ups cannot be entered correctly because decimal points are converted to commas, and the mark ups are rounded to integers.

There are two known issues that may cause this problem :-

  1. The user is not using an English/US style keyboard. In many European countries, such as Holland and France, commas are used to represent decimal points for representing numbers.
  2. The keyboard language is not set to 'English (United States)'.

THE SOLUTION

Where the user is not using an English/US style keyboard :-

  1. From the Windows Taskbar open the Control Panel
  2. Select 'Change keyboards or other input methods'
  3. Select 'Formats'
  4. Select 'Additional settings'
  5. In the 'Decimal symbol' field change the ',' to '.'

Where the keyboard language is not set to 'English (United States)'

  1. From the Windows Taskbar open the Control Panel
  2. Select 'Clock, Language and Regions'
  3. Select 'Change keyboard'
  4. Change the language to 'English (United States)'

Data type conversion error

THE PROBLEM

When you are entering the marketing split by sector, a 'Data type conversion error' message appears.

THE SOLUTION

Only enter the % required for a particular sector e.g., "10", AND NOT "10 %". Then click on another line, and the % should appear by default.

Cannot see the latest league table

THE PROBLEM

The latest league table is not appearing.

THE SOLUTION

If you are not able to view the latest league table, it may be that your web browser is not setup correctly to receive the latest web pages. The problem may be that you are viewing 'cached' web pages, on your PC, and not the latest versions.

To make sure you are receiving the updated pages, do the following in Internet Explorer (this may vary for other browsers) :-

  1. Navigate to Tools/Internet Options/Browsing History/Settings/Temporary Internet Files. Check the 'settings' and make sure that 'check for newer versions of stored pages' is set to 'automatically'
  2. Delete all temporary internet files. In Internet Explorer this is under tools/internet options/temporary internet files
  3. Press 'F5' or 'SHIFT' and 'F5' to refresh the web page, and get the latest one
